Good burritos, silly high prices. But I'm a sucker like just about everyone else for the excellent salsa,

First off, their sauce is aweeesome.. I was sweating. Free chips and salsa which is a plus in my book. I ordered the chicken salad with the cilantro sauce. Yummy! It is one of the hardiest salads I have ever eaten. You'll be full guaranteed. We ordered the shrimp and streak super burrrito. Delicious! Its large. Massive food coma afterwards no doubt. Last note, the triple threat is not made for 1!

Came here for lunch with some friends since this was one of my friend's proclaimed "Favorite burrito place in all of San Francisco". The food was fresh and tasty, service was quick, but this wasn't a great place for a group of 5 to meet. There place is tiny and only had about 5 small tables that sat 2 or 3 people, maybe 4 .. but to fit 5 we had to put two tables together and be "that group" of annoying people clogging up the area. For a quick bite to go or a lunch date with a friend, this is a definite must try.

The salsa IS a amazing. The burrito is good too and wet... but they got me wondering why they didn't put the salsa in the burrito also (the burrito isn't spicy in the slightest). This is like a more upscale version of all the other Mexican places deeper in the mission.

Large selection of vegetarian and vegan options. The tofu mole tacos (although a bit spicy) are really, really good. I've become obsessed with their roasted tomatillo salsa which I buy at Rainbow Grocery and put on everything.

On my quest from Portland I managed to stop by Papalote to try some of what I heard to be pretty awesome veg burritos. I was impressed by the sauce that came with the chips and the burritos themselves were great. It would be nice to have that rad sauce or another house made sauce for the burritos. Next time I am in the Bay I will make sure to stop by this joint again.

Delicious! This place has the tastiest salsa I've ever had. Also tried the carne asada salad, which was easily the best Mexican salad I've had as well. I'll definitely be back!

Don't get the shrimp burrito. You won't be able to find the shrimp. What a disappointment. This place is all hyped up. Please don't be fooled. The food was ok. The portions were a lot smaller than we expected for the price we paid. They don't have lengua or tripa here. This place is more like a Mexican fusion. I will have to say that this place is probably loved by vegetarians and frowned upon by the meat lovers. If you're looking for some real good Mexican food, just head to El Farolito. You'll get your meat fixing and authentic foods there.

This place is tasty! I'm not even a vegetarian and I love their soyrizo! Can take a while so plan ahead - or call ahead.

I was speeding to work and backtracked just to get Papalote. I eat it from time to time, and it's always good time to time lol. It isn't greasy, I don't feel extremely tired from eating it but I feel full. The sauce, YUM. I realized that they carry it in Whole Foods now. 4 stars on a solid burrito.

I begrudgingly bequeath 4 stars to this burrito joint. It's about the best burrito west of Valencia and deserving of the praise it gets. It's just silly that the price of the triple threat burrito went up so high. It's a pretty damn good burrito but I shouldn't need to put out a loan to get it. Definitely try the orange sauce but in my experience, buying the bottled sauce isn't really the same (tends to be too watery).

Meals comes with free chips and a unique salsa. Sat by the window on a hot day, let the cold breeze in, and sucked down a cold corona with my steak tacos. One meal is two tacos and they are bulky. I recommend paying the extra dollar for cheese, guac, and sour cream. Fast service, cool vibe and clean. Thanks, I'll be coming again.

Incredible salsa! Incredibly boring food. Everyone talks about it, and they're correct. The salsa at Papalote is phenomenal. That's about where the phenomenal-ness ends. The menu is pretty typical Mexican (tacos, burritos, entree plates) and the food is pretty typical too. It's not bad, but not necessarily incredible either. I find it an easy place to recommend, but I personally go to other places in the neighborhood for Mexican. A few dollars more expensive than it should be. There are just so many better places. The seating area is weird and crowded. Strollers, strollers everywhere.

The salsa is like crack! Seriously, the best salsa and burritos I have ever had. I was in town from DC and was told to go to this place. I did on the way to the airport. I had half of the burrito for dinner and then the other half for breakfast right before my plane landed. The service forgot my order, but, made-up for it by giving me a freebee on the next visit. The only problem I have is that they don't have one of these in DC :( I'll be back...

  • Jon S.

13 bucks for a burrito? That better be twice as good as every other burrito for that price, but that is by far not the case. A few shrimp, tons of rice, just a poorly sculpted piece of art. I live in that hood and there are so many better places. Great salsa, but that's really not enough. I prefer salsa bars with more variety and hotter. I need hotter! But that's just me. I can't get over the pricing, I feel a bit robbed, but never again!

When it comes to (gringo style) burritos this is the place! Also as a vegetarian they offer an amazing soyrizo burrito, this topped off with the papalote salsa ( I recommend ordering atleast an extra) makes it a favorite. Extra star for the cute and very personable staff taking the orders.

    - Delicious americanized burritos - salsa is awesome - 10+ minute lines - $$ not $

I found out about Papalote from tasting their salsa at Whole Foods. I was so happy to learn that it is a restaurant and that there are multiple locations in SF. Whenever I go, I always buy a jar of salsa to take home. They have large portions and I like the burritos. I usually get a carnitas one and it totally stuffs me up. It's a bit of a pain to find a seat when it is busy, but it's worth it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
